The vanity of life
by Rene Bernales

Out of the brightness his mind expresses,
The darkness within him, his soul caresses,
Refusing to heed the call, he hides
In between sin and guilt , in time he bides.

Saying, tomorrow, renew I will,
Shall leave this old and rotten prison cell,
Decayed by years of utter lie
And pains of life, of days gone by.

Tomorrow comes and tomorrow goes,
It does not stop, it does not pause,
When He who gave will sound the call,
What have to say this hapless soul?

Wrapped in linen the wayfarer,
Beneath the earth in deep slumber,
Riches and fame are all up here,
Not for the one who sleeps down there.

So listen now to the wisdom I'll say,
And take heed of lessons these lines convey,
The vanity of life, of riches and fame,
When God isn't there, they end up in shame.
